My latest body of work entitled 'Tooling Up, Standing By' has been produced during the Coronavirus pandemic and reflects on the feeling of stagnation imposed by the crisis as well as the frustration of being ill equipped for what lies ahead. Faced with uncertainty, utilitarian objects such as tools provide a sense of preparedness, strength and control.

The sculptures reference mechanical operating parts, hand-tools, electronic components and miscellaneous fixtures and fittings. The design details of such objects are closely observed through drawing and model making before being playfully translated in clay.
